Mundane Astrology and Geodetic Equivalents

The Geodetic System in Astrology (Geodetic Equivalents)

This is one of the most fascinating, "pure," and mathematical systems in Mundane Astrology. It adds a completely new dimension, as it directly links astrology with the very geography of our planet.
The core concept behind this system is that the Earth itself is a mirror of the Zodiac. Instead of requiring the exact founding time of a country or city (which is often unknown or highly debated), the Geodetic System "locks" the zodiac wheel onto the planet's fixed geographical coordinates.
Every point on Earth possesses its own, unalterable Geodetic Midheaven (MC) and Geodetic Ascendant (ASC), which never change over the centuries. In Mundane Astrology, the Geodetic system is frequently used to determine how a prime minister, a president, or a specific government connects to the country or city they govern.
Let us first examine how this system works:
  • The Prime Meridian (0° Geographical Longitude in Greenwich, England) is defined as 0° 00′ Aries, which marks the official beginning of the zodiac wheel.
  • Eastward Movement: For every 1 degree we move east of Greenwich, the Midheaven (MC) advances by 1 degree in the zodiac (Aries, Taurus, Gemini, etc.).
  • Westward Movement: For every degree we move west, we count backward through the zodiac (Aries, Pisces, Aquarius, etc.).
Since countries do not change coordinates, their crises and triumphs manifest when major planets (Saturn, Pluto, Neptune) or Eclipses activate these highly sensitive geographical points.
Example: France

France has its Geodetic Midheaven (MC) at 2° Aries. The current transit of Neptune over this point reflects the dissolution of the government, as well as the inability of the President or the Prime Minister to control the political landscape.
If one follows the news, the country is currently going through one of its deepest and most prolonged political and social crises in recent years. Recently, economic and social pressures led to widespread riots and violent clashes on the streets of Paris and other major cities. The government has been forced to resort to strict measures—such as local curfews, protest bans, and the deployment of security forces—desperately trying to regain control.
Macron's Natal Chart Alignment

Emmanuel Macron has his natal Jupiter at 1° 18′ Cancer.
  • The Aspect: The 1st degree of Cancer forms an exact square (90 degrees) with 2° Aries (the Geodetic MC of Paris).
  • The Interpretation: Jupiter is the planet of expansion, grand ambition, and luck, but also of excess and fanaticism—even more so when it is in its exaltation (Cancer), which amplifies exaggeration. The fact that it squares the country's Midheaven shows that his rise to the presidency occurred in an almost unexpected, rapid manner (becoming the youngest President in the history of the country). However, because this is a square aspect, this expansion of power is always accompanied by intense internal conflict, polarization (square), and a public perception that the leader operates with arrogance or hubris.
The Transit of Neptune
Transiting Neptune is currently located at 2° Aries. It sits in an exact conjunction right on France's Geodetic MC (2° Aries), bringing the dissolution of authority, while simultaneously forming a harsh square with Macron's natal Jupiter (1° 18′ Cancer).
In Mundane Astrology, when Neptune squares a leader's Jupiter while simultaneously affecting the country's Midheaven, the following occurs:
  1. The "Bubble" Bursts (Neptune/Jupiter): Jupiter represents optimism and Macron's grand, exalted plans for his homeland and people (Cancer). Neptune, however, comes to "cloud" these plans, showing that his political strategies and maneuvers (such as the dissolution of the National Assembly and the snap elections he triggered in the past) have led to an absolute political deadlock.
  2. Loss of Charisma & Isolation: The leader loses his "charismatic aura." He feels that his moves yield no results and that his influence is decomposing, driving his approval ratings to historic lows and leaving him politically isolated.
This transit of Neptune at 2° Aries tests both him and his country, bringing the end of his political dominance amidst a landscape of absolute ambiguity and institutional disorganization as he approaches the end of his term.
The Foundation of the Crisis (Saturn's Transit)

It is worth noting that the passage of Saturn through the exact same 2° of France's Midheaven had already preceded this. This transit indicates that the deconstruction of power began a long time ago. Saturn acted as the "judge" that brought the rotten foundations of the political system and governance to the surface. Thus, Neptune, following right after, simply arrives to complete the dissolution of a structure that was already severely shaken. While Saturn tests endurance and brings institutional crises, Neptune follows to dissolve whatever remains.
The fact that this crisis manifests in the sign of Aries carries its own distinct significance. Aries, as a fire sign ruled by Mars, symbolizes rebelliousness, intense social backlash, and a state of warfare. Consequently, the deconstruction brought by Saturn and the dissolution now finalized by Neptune do not take place behind the scenes; instead, they are expressed "militarily" in the streets through clashes, blind rage, and a generalized uprising against authority (Aries/MC).
In our next article, we will return to analyze Marine Le Pen, examining which planet connects to the country's Midheaven and in what way.
Stay tuned!
